We are only a matter of days from our launch date. The crew has performed very professionally and well. I am looking forward to working more closely with this crew and believe that they are a truly motivated group. It appears that the crew is beginning to appreciate all the hard work they have put into this venture and I have been told by a number of them that they can now hardly wait for the launch of the USS Constellation.

VADMR Riker on his recent visit to our ship was very pleased by the progress on the ship's construction and the morale of the crew. He further informed me that in accordance with Starfleet orders which he had just received that we have been authorized to fire on his battle group at 10% phaser power. Any drone vessels are programed to be destroyed if struck at this level.

If we find that we have multiple targets available to us, we must use the lower power levels (10%) for firings if we wish to engage all available targets. It still stands that if we are only targeting his ship that we are to use 75% phaser power. We are also limited to 10 such attacks and once that figure is reached then we must reduce our phaser power to 10% for any additional attacks on his vessel. This is a safety percaution measure. He turned a copy of these orders over to me at the time.

Also in those orders he is authorized to use his full available fleet and up to 60 drone vessels in his attacks against us. The drone vessels have also been programed to fire single phasers at 10%, if and when they aquire a firing solution on us.

The location beacon has been tested by the VADMR and is in full working order. It is to be installed on our ship in the next couple of days. Our rendevous position for the beginning of the combat exercise is the Vantary Moon.

Tomorrow night we launch. We are to rendezvous with VADMR Riker and enjoin the Starfleet Military exercise program as ordered. This shake-down cruise will determine both the ship's and the crew's readiness for any battle conditions that we may encounter on our missions and as an intregral part of the fleet itself.

All that can be done has been done. There are still small details to finish but nothing that can't be completed from with in the ship herself. The excitement and anxiety level is so high among the crew that you could run a replicator with its energy.

The Doc is still running physicals and encephlograms as a precautionary measure against bio invasion of enemy forces. All crew was passed through Starfleet security clearence proceedures prior to assignment so we should be okay on that end...but you never know.

The Captain and I have been making rounds reasurring the crew in an attempt to calm the prelaunch jitters brought on not only by launch.. but the Starfleet exercises in which we had darn well better prove ourselves worthy of Starfleet expenditures and our own commissions. Fortunately..Counselor Dax has been there to reassure the reassurers.

I have a gut confidence in this crew who have..during the construction phase..become friends as well as shipmates. I know we will band together in strong support so that each will succeed in their separate duties and together as a working crew....may the Gods of each bless us all and our ship....end 1st officer's log

..As you are all aware, our first SIMM was conducted yesterday. We did not achieve the level of participation that we were lead to believe and had hoped would take place. Many of the crew were not able to attend due to the start time and other commitments. I and those that were able to attend for the entire SIMM demonstrated very deep concern with this issue.

The mission itself went along very smoothly considering the multiple duties some members were required to take on. It was started 2 min. late and ran 3 min over the allotted time. It is hoped that in future we will be able to remain that close to the allotted time. Some members had difficulty getting to the SIMM on time and that too is hoped to be corrected in the future.

The Mission.
We were able to depart Roddenberry and the EO was required to make adjustments to the impulse and warp drives prior to the speed runs. Tac O ran the tests and also fine tuned the weapons and shield settings. We were unable to complete the speed test but were able to achieve a speed of warp 7 easily. First part of the simm was thus considered to be a success and the crew just requires a little fine tuning in the making of reports to the bridge on actions and assuming of states of readiness.

Part two of the mission (40 min) was the engagement of VADMR Rikers forces. We engaged a total of 35 vessels of which 7 were starships and the remaining 28 were drones. We engaged the cloaking device and beacon after successfully destroying the first drone vessel. We took up station behind the two Riker vessels and successfully hit his ship, we took evasive action and then returned to take position between the two vessels and successfully launched our second attack and evasive maneuvers.

At this point the XO assumed command as she did so 20 additional vessels reported for action. We did not engage this group and they joined VADMR Riker unopposed. At this point they fired a broad phaser pattern and we sustained multiple hits, 12 injured as a result. We took evasive action. While doing so another 15 (3 ss-12 drones) vessels came out of warp and we engaged them, destroying 5 drones. The remainder of the force joined Riker's force. Riker then had his fleet take flanking maneuvers based on our last firing position. They engaged the area again with a broad phaser pattern and we again were hit, receiving an additional 12 injuries.

We then maneuvered into a firing position on Rikers vessel and destroyed his bridge, we then conducted a broad phaser pattern while taking evasive action.

At this time the action part of the Mission was completed and VADRM Riker reported that the cloak was successful and his forces sustained the following damage: his ships shields failed at 65%, 78% damage to his other 6 ships and 85% damage to his remaining 12 drone vessels.

He concluded the exercise to be a success at which time we returned to Roddenberry for the necessary repairs, fine tuning of systems and the final installation of equipment...end Captain's Log

I have had a visit from Doc Jadzia. She has given me the results of the physicals we all were required to take prior to launch and I must consider myself lucky that the Andronesian Encephalitis has been caught in time..The disease if allowed to spread can cause extreme lethargy, distorted though processes and coma...Bless the stars for Quadroline! Her discovery certainly explains some of the discomforts I have been experiencing lately..I had just racked it up to overexertion getting the ship ready for our joint exercises with Starfleet.

My main concern now is that since it's an airborn microbe and all of us have been to the same places at the same times, that other members of the crew may have dormant versions of it hiding in their systems waiting to show itself at the first sign of weakness. Should this be so, it could be transmitted throughout the ship.

Tomorrow I'll cut orders for our science officer to contact the the medical personal aboard the Roddenberry and run a check on how many if any of the starbase personal have contracted this disease and trace it's origin. Also we need to see if they can figure out how it got past the starbase air purification systems which should have trapped and destroyed it before it got to me...unless of course someone brought it here on purpose and that is a point that must be ruled out...end log

I have now completed all the physicals on the crew. I did Captain Transzed's today and I've just finished going over the results. He seems to be in great physical health but I found something disturbing in the brain scan results. I am not sure what to make of it so I have sent a message to the captain asking him to please come back to sickbay and let me run a few more extensive tests to see if i can pinpoint the problem. Hopefully, he will be back in the morning and we can get this problem solved.

I am now going to look more closely into the problem with the Andronesian Encephalitis. Being that it is an airborn microorganism means that we have all been exposed.

I called the Starbase Roddenberry and talked to Dr. Topin and according to him, several starfleet personnal have been diagnosed with the disease in the last two weeks. It looks like someone wanted very much to try to delay our launch and prevent our joining VADMR Riker in Starfleet's military exercises.

I am working on finding a vaccine that will prevent anymore of us from getting sick. Hopefully, I will have the vaccine developed soon and the threat will be behind us...end log.

Captain Transzed came back to my office today and I ran a brain-circuitry pattern test on him. Right now it is really starting to look like a parasite of some kind has imbedded itself in the captain's brain and is controling his brain pattern waves.

I am now going to try and find out what kind of parasite it is and if their is some way of eliminating it so the captain can continue to run his new command. From here on out, this could end up being a tricky problem for me to solve...end medical log

The CMO has reported that I am in good physical condition but that she believes she found a virus/parasite of some sort which may affect my performance and judgement.

While I was on earth, I under went a complete physical there and was asked to volunteer for an experimental top secret proceedure. The sysmptoms are such that without the appropriate test equipment, the implant could be mistaken as a viral/parasitic infection of the brain. In fact, it is new type of nanite which once it has completed it's work in the brain, will enhance the function of the human mind by 38% at the least.

They are unsure if it will further the mind in a telepathic way, but it will enhance the mind's ability to retain information and speed up mind processing ability as well as reaction time in both the mind and body. This nanite is believed to also enhance the immune system as well as the body's ability to repair damage to itself.

The nanite is more of an organic nature rather than the electronic nature of its predessors. I will be required to return to earth in 8 months to have tests run on the effectiveness and progress of the experimental nanites that have been implanted in my system....end log.

We have unfortunately had a reduction of personel attend the meetings and simms since our launch date. Attempts have been made to resolve the issue but the participation by the majority of the staff fell well short of expectations and requirements.

I am in hopes that staff will review this and contact the XO or myself to inform us whether or not members are still with us and what difficulties they maybe incurring that preclude their being able to attend meetings and simms.

We are unable to address or make changes which will allow all staff to attend.

Captain's Log.....
At the start of our last mission to what is believed to be an uninhabited planet in the Sigma Draconis system, I was call back to the UFSB Roddenberry. I was to meet with Vice Admiral Riker and a captain in the intelligence section of Starfleet HQ.

The results of this meeting were that the Marquis are believed to be working on a device which at the moment is believed to be capable of creating a Dimensional Rift which transports people or objects out of our dimension for short time. intelligence also indicates that their endeavors in this area allows them to be on equal footing with the Dominion troops. It is also believed that they are working on a larger version which will allow them to transport much larger items such as ships.

Merchant ships and some star ships which have passed close to what are believed to be Marquis settlements or those of Maquis sympathizers have reported members of their crews disappearing for periods from 5 min to 1hr in durations.

Intelligence reports indicate that they have not mastered the system as yet and do not have complete control over the length of time for which an individual is transported.

Starfleet estimates that it will take the Marquis another 6-9 months to perfect the device and to gain control over the duration of time that an individual can be transported to another dimension. With the exception of unforeseen breakthroughs in the development and application areas, Starfleet believes they will be able to devise a suitable counter measure to the Marquis device.

I have orders to return to the USS Constellation via shuttle and to give the ship's Science Department all the information Starfleet HQ presently has on this device and to task them with investigating effective counter measures. My Chief Sci O will keep me advi sed of his and Starfleet's advances in this field. I will also upon my return, be handing the Comm O a new set of codes for external Comms from our ship. These codes are for the express purpose of the our CSIO O to send and receive messages with Starfleet labs. The only other two crew which have authorization to use these codes are the CO and XO of the ship....end Captain's log.

Acting CO Supplemental...
The ship left dock and the captain was called for an emergency meeting with Admiral Riker. He beamed from the Constellation to Roddenberry as we left on our mission.

We were in route to the Maquis hideout and suddenly the XO disappears mysteriously and doesn't come back for a long time. I took command and continued the mission as per our orders. We were experiencing the disappearance of different crew members off and on. I deduced telepathically and announced that we were experiencing some kind of dimensional shifting that was taking people in and out. Obviously something the Maquis were doing to us, but unknown as to exactly what.

The away team ( Bones, Striker and Lt. tgree ) beamed down to the planet to capture the Marquis raiders and were in the process of capturing one when the dimensional shifting started to affect the ship. XO showed back up as mysteriously as she had left and command was turned back over to her.

coming out of the ddimensionalshift she had no clue to what was happening, so at her telepathic request I continued to assist. We were running out of time, dimensional shifting was affecting the ship, so I ordered the ships transporter crew to lock on all life forms an beam them aboard and simultaneously emergency warp out of there, heading to Roddenberry. The simm ended there.

Crew that was transported up was Striker and Lt. T gree, we did not get the prisoner and we did not get Bones. Actually we don't know why the transporter was unable to lock on her to beam her up. We suspect that she shifted into another dimension and was not there for the transporter to lock on. We are currently returning to the Roddenberry and without our doctor. I have lost all telepathic contact with the doctor, we don't know where she is. We should soon be rendezvousing with the captain, whom we understand is headed our way by shuttle....end log..

Captain's Log: Personal....
The XO has posted a log entry for which she also has sent a copy to us all regarding an Alternate Day on which to conduct SIMMs. The idea behind this as you may have gathered is conduct the same SIMM on two separate days of the week. The only draw backs I see to this proposal is that there was nowhere in the proposal and suggestion as to the day or time this is to occur. This issue should be considered by all and each should have an input as to whether they agree with the alternative also as to what day and time it is to take place.

As I see the problem at the moment with the attendance to the Weekly Meetings and SIMM are two fold for the school age members. These are that at present they are taking place on a Week day and school night as well as the SIMM itself is being conducted at an hour which is too late to allow these members to participate. Attempts to get responses and input have run into a variety of difficulties and they include: no response to received messages (e-mail), not being able to receive the e-mail (sent out through MSN system-returned as undeliverable), and the inability to get enough people together at one time which represent a cross section of the members so we can arrive at a suitable day and time.

We have been batting this Day and Time issue around for months with no success or resolution in sight. It is important to both the XO and myself to find a resolution to this difficulty. It will thus fall upon those which attend, to make their options known, vote into place and make the final decision.

The next issue which we have been looking at are where to conduct the SIMMs. At this point there are three options which are being considered and they are:

• Battle Bridge (on the USS Constellation page);
• mIRC (Lesa-LCDR Jadzia has acquired space there- SIMM to be conducted there on an alternating basis- voted in at last meeting);
• ZMUD ( proposed as an option by the XO in her log and e-mail to all)

Both mIRC and ZMUD require that programs be downloaded and installed on members HD.

The mIRC is shareware and requires to be set up for initial access to the SIMM sight but once done it is from then on easy to access. Any problems with the program itself which have been stated, may and as far as I know only affected one member. Set up of this program is very simple and there are a few members which can assist others to achieve the setup and connection to the location. All other options are available when you install the program and only require reading to learn how to use effectively.

The ZMUD program which I have read about, most of the options available originally takes up 1.5 megs of HD space. This program is free. The area the XO did not mention in her Log and e-mail was that to gain full benefit and access to this programs options it will require the user to program in strings to activate them. These strings can be called upon by a variety of ways from single keystrokes, two letter keystrokes, buttons and switches. All of these require the user to define the command string and some knowledge of programing. Each of the methods of enacting the functions (command strings) are well covered in the HELP file which comes with the program. Once these are in place it appears that the SIMMing experience would be greatly enhanced. It must also be noted that the greater number of functions you program in the larger the program is on your HD as it places these in buffer files.

Careful consideration must be made here in regards to the time and effort one wishes to put into writing the required strings for the action and response the program to carry out. I do not have a list of all the variables which can be used in the command strings and I would hope that the XO would be able to advise us that there is such a list as part of the program or once installed from the Server which contains the main operating program that we would be communicating with. In the HELP file they only give you definitions of the Function and an example of a string to cause an action or event to occur. I also would hope the XO would give us all a better idea of what other advantages it has as well as if it is a Text or Virtual world type environment.

The Battle Bridge is what we have used thus far and most are familiar with it. It is only a text based chat forum which does not allow for actions or events to be conducted.

I am in no way attempting to lead you in any of the above areas. I am attempting at this time to give you a little more information on the options we have been offered.

I ask that those with proposals attempt to give us as good an idea as they can on the advantages and disadvantages. That they are able to give us some idea of what to expect from the program and what type of environment it offers....end log.

Captain's Log.... I have completed the meetings on UFSB Roddenberry and just about to leave the station aboard the shuttle Quasar II to rejoin USS Constellation. I am bringing LCDR Mulruney with me as he has been attached to the ship from Starfleet to assist in the analysing of the Maquis new system.

Alarming news has reached us that the ship has left orbit around the planet in Sigma Draconis system and apparently left at least one crew member behind. Communications with the ship indicate that they are enroute back to the station and that they believe they received orders to do so.

No orders were issued for their return to the station but rather the orders sent to them were to remain on station and to make all attempts to recover any and all personnel prior to departure. A full investigation will be conducted into the responses of ship's command team and if required disciplinary action taken.

Recent intelligence has revealed that the Maquis have advanced their abilities with the dimensional shift. They conducted an attack on a Cardasian garrision which was manned by Dominion troops and destroyed not only the base but also 5 Dominion ships defending the sector.

The Maquis were able to materialize undetected and fire at point blank range on the the patrol vessels. The land forces then transported to the surface and were able to track and destroy the Dominion troops. By the time the Cardasian/Dominion alliance were able to respond, the Maquis were gone with no trace.

Our next mission is to assertain the extent of the Maquis' technology and to gain more information on the dimension which their system transports individuals. It is also apparent that they have the ability to transport ships in and out of this dimension at will. This aspect is very alarming to the Federation as they believed that such abilities were another 6-9 months away.

The USS Constellation and her crew have been assigned the task of capturing one of these devices and to forward the same to Starfleet for analysis. Such a device will assist the Federation but also such a device in the wrong hands or misused could cause unknown circumstances.

It also has been reported that ENS Deanna and LTJG J'Paul Dax have been transported to this dimension from their shuttle 2 weeks ago. ENS Stu Feils has been shifted back and forth from this dimension during the same period and has materialize all over the quadrant. His reports during those times are that he only saw Deanna and J'Paul during his first shift and that they appear not to be in the same dimension as he. From this Starfleet has ascertained that the earlier tests of the device sent these individuals into a different dimension than what is currently being used and that those members of Starfleet will be lost unless a fully operational system can be aquired.
